The work of preserving theatre takes many hands. Interested in lending yours? The American Theatre Archive Project (ATAP) is a volunteer-run initiative of the American Society for Theatre Research.

  • Steering Committee: Currently, members of the steering committee meet quarterly as a group to discuss plans, touch-base on ongoing projects, and manage inquiries from the public. We’re looking for people passionate about theatre, archives, and preservation, willing to help plan and implement programs that will raise awareness about the importance of archiving performance and strengthen the organization’s foundation.
  • Consulting Archivists: Trained archivists with advanced degrees in libraries and information science serve the performing arts community as consulting archivists. Artists and theatre companies write with specific questions about creating and caring for their records. With guidance from our manual, volunteer consulting archivists provide assistance via email or video conferencing.
