PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT of THEATRE
The department currently consists of 12 full-time and 7 part-time faculty and enrolls over 220 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. Degrees offered include a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with concentrations in Stage and Screen Acting, Design/Technology, and Theatre Studies, a Master of Fine Arts in Design/Technology, Performance, or Stage Management; and a Master of Arts in Theatre.

The Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT), the producing arm of the Department, supports a professional theatre training program committed to bringing to Las Vegas the highest quality theatre featuring professional artists and advanced students recruited from around the country. NCT’s mission is to “create vibrant theatre that inspires and entertains while providing a social, political, and ethical forum for Las Vegas artists and audiences. We engage with our community to create a lively dialogue and we provide a professional training experience for students of the Department of Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.”

ROLE of the POSITION
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the Department of Theatre Chair is a full-time, tenured faculty position on a 12-month contract, ideally beginning July 1, 2017. The Chair represents the Department and the Nevada Conservatory Theatre to the College, the University, the community, throughout the state of Nevada and the country. In collaboration with faculty and staff, the Chair leads the department in all aspects of program and curricular development, scholarly/creative activity, advocacy, and service while fostering diversity and collaboration. Additionally, the Chair duties include a leadership role in the Nevada Conservatory Theatre. The Chair schedules and staffs all classes, supervises departmental employees, administers personnel evaluations, and recommends faculty for promotion and tenure as outlined in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Code. The Chair develops and manages departmental budgets, oversees facilities and equipment, and responds to concerns expressed by faculty, students, University officials and outside constituents.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: This position is full-time, tenured and on a 12-month contract. Ideally the successful candidate will take office July 1, 2017, possess a terminal degree or equivalency in Theatre from a regionally accredited college or university, and have a record of excellence in teaching and artistic or scholarly activity. Demonstrated administrative experience, including a history of resource management, fundraising, recruiting, promotion of university Theatre programs, program development, and community outreach is expected. The successful candidate must possess the qualifications for appointment with tenure. Further, the successful candidate will hold a documented record of advocacy with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with experience that includes a strong record of administrative leadership at the level of chair or higher; experience and facility with curriculum development; experience and facility with arts performance, management and production; integrating high impact, engaged pedagogies and new technologies into the curriculum; strategic planning; and student learning outcomes assessment. A history of successful fund-raising is considered a plus.

SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
