Position Information
The faculty of the University Library at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a two-year temporary full-time (with a possible extension) Librarian position in the Archives & Special Collections department.

The University Library at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) seeks a technology-savvy, innovative, adaptive, and service-oriented Digital Archivist to join the Archives and Special Collections team. The Digital Archivist provides leadership, vision, and support for the CSU System-wide Archives and its digital projects as well as other CSUDH collections-related digitization and archival projects. The successful candidate will:

* Coordinate with Archives staff to plan, prioritize, and carry out projects to digitize CSU archival materials.
* Process, catalog, and upload digital objects across image, text, audio, and video formats into the CSU and CSUDH digital collections.
* Digitize materials and participate in the integration of related metadata into systems for storage, discovery and display according to current industry standards.
* Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of policies and workflows that facilitate the digitization of CSU materials and the creation of metadata in accordance with emerging standards and best practices.
* Oversee the maintenance of content, cataloging, flow, and ingest of digital objects in digital asset management systems including Content DM.
* Participate in the administration of the CSUDH/CSU institutional repository (Scholar Works).
* Provide expertise on topics related to the management of digitized and born-digital materials. Work with CSU and CSUDH personnel to transfer paper, video, and born- digital materials to the archives.
* Provide advice and assistance for Archives researchers.
* Engage in outreach to promote awareness and use of primary resources and digital collections for the CSUDH community.
* Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in digital collections.
* Engage in professional development activities in support of the library and its digital initiatives and maintain an interest in California history.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience as a Digital Archivist or an Archivist in an academic setting as well as experience with archival content management systems and digital collection projects. Additionally, this person will have knowledge of and experience with standards and best practices for digitization of archives, manuscripts, rare books, photographs, audiovisual recordings, and other special collections holdings. In addition to excellent interpersonal and communication skills, this candidate will bring an attitude of curiosity, creativity, and innovation to the Archives and Special Collections department.

Responsibilities
The Digital Archivist provides leadership, vision, and support for the library’s Archives and Special Collections Department’s digital, metadata and archival projects relating to the CSU System-wide Archives. Reporting to the Director of Archives & Special Collections, the CSU Digital Archivist supports efforts to preserve and make accessible archival materials relating to the CSU System-wide Archives and other CSUDH collections. The Digital Archivist will provide expertise on topics related to cataloging, digitized and born-digital materials, the digitization of audio, video and paper records, the creation of metadata and the operation the Library’s institutional repository. The Digital Archivist works in a highly collaborative manner with CSUDH Archives and Library personnel.
Qualifications

* Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution or a related advanced degree.
* Minimum of two years professional experience working as an Archivist or Digital Archivist in an academic, digital, or research library.
* Knowledge of current trends in the creation and operation of a digital collection management system (Content DM) and an understanding of an institutional repository.
* Evidence of flexibility, innovative thinking, and a vision for the future of archives in academic libraries.
* Working knowledge of standards for description and preservation of special collections holdings including MARC, EAD, MARC, MODS, METS, DACS, RDA, and PREMIS.
* Leadership ability, strong problem-solving skills, and commitment to continuous learning.
* Experience generating EAD finding aids.
* Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to carry out complex projects in a rapidly changing environment.
* Work in a highly collaborative manner with CSUDH Archives and Library personnel.
* A positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a diverse environment.
* Experience working with undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience leading digitization programs.
* Experience gathering, analyzing, and reporting data on digital projects.
* Experience working with faculty and other campus constituencies.
* Grant writing experience.
* Demonstrated ability to excel in research and other scholarly activities.
* Knowledge and understanding of California history.
* Experience in dealing with issues relating to Archives and Special Collections departments.

Faculty Pay & Benefits
Appointment will be at the rank of Librarian, and salary will be dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.
